Church Work Day

So I spent several hours this morning help "build out" our new chrch facility. It was fun, we had a small group of just me and Brent and Roger. Another church member, Kevin, was there for a while but had soccer games to attend for his children so he left earlier than the rest of us.

On the Agenda today was putting the plywood on what will be the stage. A lot of thought has been put into planning and I was suprised to see all of the wireing, cabling, and infrastructure built into the stage design. We also did some mudding of drywall, sanding, and priming of walls for paint. There is a long list of to-do's and we only got to a few of them today.

Internet Explorer 7

Just installed Internet Explorer 7. It seems to be very "Firefox" like, but I actually like it better so far. I love the tabbed browsing, and I am fooling around a little now on the built in RSS feed reader. I'll blog future thoughts.

Behind the Da Vinci Code Curve

Our weekly life group is doing a Lee Stroebel study on The Da Vinci Code. I have been less than enthusiastic about the study and I really don't know why. So far I am convinced that everyone who is remotely interested in understanding the Bible more clearly should take a seminary level New and Old Testament class. Coincidentially, those are the only two seminary classes I have taken. The lessons tough in those classes go along way to preparing a response to the Da Vinci code.

However, I feel that Christians are really the only ones still concerned about the Da Vinci conversation. Has the wave passed us by while we were concerned by Mel Gibsons anti-semetic tirade?

Weekend

A few major things on the agenda this weekend

First, I am spending the Saturday motning at our new church facility helping with buildout. I am really looking for to this, as I have not had the time to help to this point. This is the second official workday, and I expect we'll get alot of work done.

Second, my boss' daughter turns two tomorrow. However V is a little under the weather, and we may miss the party. I really hope we can go, my employer really celebrates birthdays, and usually a really cool party surrounds anyones birthday.

Third, as I said in an earlier post I am playing at C-stone for Ron's farewell.

Recap to follow..

Back at C-Stone (for a visit)

So I am playing djembe this weekend at Cornerstone. My friend Ron will be giving his last sermons to Cornerstone this weekend as he is preparing a move to Manchester, England. It was nice to have been included in the music, as our friendship pre-dates both Ron's and my own tenure at Cornerstone. I was originally asked to play drumset, however the teams new drummer also was at rehearsal last night, and seemed anxious to play set over the djembe. I didn't mind the switch.

I have always liked the djembe, I was able to get a dozen or so really distinct sounds from it last night. We'll see how Sunday goes, it should be alot of fun, even if we are saying goodbye to a really good friend.

Back to the Routine

I love summer but it's so darn busy. It seems just yesterday we were having dance recitals, and end of school parties. Now, were back to dance class, homework, and routine. I don't have any regrets of summer. It was awesome. I acheived two major goals this summer. First, I successfully saw my daughter learn to ride a two wheel bike with confidence. And second, even if it was just cool drinks on the deck, Lynn and I spent some real quality time together. My goals for the fall are easy, tidiness. I am too messy, I need to get organized.

Worship Event

Last Sunday New Hope held a foundation service for our new Church building. Each person was given a peice of chalk and asked towrite several verses around the worship facility to act as a foundation for our new church home. It was a very powerful worship experience partially because verses covered nearly the entire space when we were finished. But more so because the words of God we expressed were our own, they were what God had placed on our heart, they were "Us". They were also chalk, and will be absorbed into carpeting and glue as our construction continues. So in a way these words, spoken by God, have become a real part of our new facility.
